Attached is the "Call for Nomination" for the Heritage Commission's Annual Preservation Awards and the application.  Start thinking of worthy projects in your area.

SUBJECT:   THE 30th ANNUAL PRESERVATION AWARDS 
      Help us honor someone who is preserving our heritage by…
Restoring or rehabilitating a building

  • Publishing an article, book, or any written material about

History or our heritage
Contributing to the general public knowledge and awareness of Delaware County history

  • Creating a special program or project highlighting a facet of community history

We want to know about these projects and consider them for a Preservation Award.  By helping us recognize these individuals, groups, organizations, businesses, or institutions, you will be helping to encourage the continued preservation of our County’s heritage.  Coordinated by the Heritage Commission, these awards are presented annually by County Council at a regular Council meeting held during National Preservation Week in May.
Any group or person may make nominations for any category.  Information on the Award Categories and a Nomination Form are available online.  We strongly encourage you to thoroughly complete the form and to include all of the necessary materials requested.
We look forward to receiving your nominations.  If you have any questions, please call Kathy Wandersee at 610-891-5329.  The deadline for nominations is March 21, 2008.

 

CONGRATULATIONS TO MARPLE TOWNSHIP!
        Marple Township Commissioners passed their Historic Preservation Ordinance last night!  If anyone wishes to see a copy of it, either contact the Township office at 610 356-4040 or Rich Paul, Chairman of the Marple Historical Commission, at 610 353-4967.

HERITAGE COMMISSION SEMINAR
Oral histories are a wonderful way of recording the rich heritage of our local communities.  Come to this beginners session on how to plan for, conduct, and use this valuable research tool in your own community. Save the date of March 29, 2008, a Saturday in the Government Center Building in Media.  More information and the registration form are to come.

HISTORIC RESOURCE SURVEY WORKSHOP
April 12, 2008
Does your Municipality have an historic resource survey?  If you do, it may need some serious updating.  If you don't, are you wondering how to go about getting one?  Dr. Carol Lee, Section Chief of the National Register and Survey Section of Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, will be the primary presenter at a workshop schedule for Saturday morning, Government Center Building, Media, PA.  More information will be available next week.

The "Old House Fair" sponsored by the Preservation Alliance is a must for those owning older homes and anyone working with historic buildings.
